Open Cup Preview
Berber City is back on the road again as the team takes on Edgewater Castle in their Lamar Hunt US Open Cup debut! The Berber Boys are coming off their first defeat of the fall UPSL season, but there’s no denying the threat that this current squad possesses as two wins out of three, including 14 goals scored caped off a strong start to the season ahead of this matchup. Meanwhile, Edgewater will have to find a way to shake off the rust as they are playing their first competitive game since the end of the 2023 MWPL season.
Coach Fouad Airaki emphasized the importance of fielding a team for the Fall UPSL season, stating “Joining UPSL has given us a chance to rebuild the team and focus on building chemistry between our players. We have played three games in UPSL, and I can confidently say that the boys are progressing each game, and their performances go from good to great. We all are more than ready for Saturday, and we have no doubt that our boys will give us a hell of a performance. On top of this, Team Captain Amine Airaki made it very clear the importance of this match, praising the team on a great week of practice and highlighting that this is a unique competition where past results don’t matter, both good and bad.
